Dear Potential Client
Everything you need to know about working with me
--
Oh, sorry. I didn’t see you there. Hi, I’m Jon.
If you’re reading this, then you’re likely considering working with me. Cool! You seem great already.
With the abundance of freelance databases available, you have a lot of folks you can partner with. But you need to spend less time searching through the endless abyss of freelancers and more time building your brand. With that said, I figured I’d introduce myself.
This isn’t a “pitch” (I’m not dressed nearly well enough). I’m not trying to sell you on anything. I’m simply trying to save us both time by ensuring we’re a perfect fit — like PB&J, S’mores and a campfire, that feeling when you find two socks that actually match.
Sound good? Here’s what you should know:
Transparency
I strive to be as transparent and honest as possible — holding integrity above all. Always. I see myself as an advisor and partner, working on your brand as if it were my own. I will never hesitate to tell you the truth, ask questions, or detail concerns. I believe the best possible end-product is rooted in a partnership that leads with empathy, trust, understanding, and openness.
Expertise
The numbers don’t lie. I have nearly a decade of creative expertise. I’ve worked nearly every role in agency life — from Jr. Copywriter to Content Director. I’ve freelanced. I’ve built my own brand as a writer and comedian. I’ve advised everyone from startups to nonprofits to multi-million dollar companies. I’ve worked with pro athletes, with politicians, with CEOs (and one U.S. President). I’ve been in the pitch room and I’ve done the pitching. My ideas are reflected in more than 100 brands around the world. I’ve been featured in national outlets like Washington Post, Vulture, NBC News, TIME, HuffPost, Funny or Die, and more. Should I go on? Please don’t make me go on, contrary to popular belief I actually hate talking about myself.
Services
I focus on Messaging + Strategy. This includes brand naming, tagline/slogan development, brand messaging/foundational work, copywriting services, scriptwriting, comedy writing, brand strategy work, content strategy, speechwriting, and more. If it has to do with words, I can probably do it (and I’ll let you know if I can’t).

Unique approach
While I have traditional experience and certifications, I’m not your traditional creative. I’ve taken the best parts of my agency experience and I’ve thrown out the stuffy stuff that seems to lead to more frustration than fun. I’ve had a chance to see through the BS and I’ve gone head-to-head with gatekeepers who are more interested in making claims than actually making a difference. I believe in frameworks, not hard-and-fast rules. Impact, not ego. Situational context, not “one-size-fits-all”.
Story-first, intention-always
My background is in comedy and storytelling. As such, I believe a good story is at the heart of every good brand. I’m obsessed with playing with words in a way that gets audiences to take action — whether I want to get them to laugh or click an ad. I merge my years of advertising/marketing experience with my comedy/storytelling expertise to build brands that actually speak to humans — not corporate, jargon-filled robots. Sorry, robots.
Get what you pay for
Remember that whole transparency thing? I can almost guarantee I’m not the cheapest candidate out there. If you’re looking for an entry-level writer who doesn’t know the difference between an Oxford comma and a Witney comma, keep on searching. What’s a Witney comma, you ask? I just made it up.
That said, I’m certainly not the most expensive option out there. I strive to offer flexible budget options and rates that are well under (almost hilariously) what you would pay for when engaging with a typical branding agency. My goal is to deliver rates that match my level of experience, while delivering tangible value for you and your business without breaking the bank.
NBA referees
As a die-hard basketball fan, I believe there needs to be something done about the current state of reffing in professional basketball.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope to work together!
Any other questions? I’m all ears.
